Rolls Royce vehicles manufactured after the 1960s had been so fortunate to have been equipped with an electronic device that improves vehicles’ fuel efficiency more. It was because during the year 1960s, oxygen sensors were invented. These first came out as aftermarket parts but soon, Rolls Royce adapted their functions into the vehicles it manufactures. Nowadays, it would be common to find Rolls Royce cars equipped with their own Rolls Royce oxygen sensor.
Fuel efficiency is one of the things Rolls Royce is proud to have in its vehicles and this is because of its maintenance of the right ratio of air and fuel for combustion. The proper ratio is obtained with the help of the Rolls Royce O2 sensor with its constant monitoring of the oxygen content in the exhaust. It measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust and gives this information to the car computer. The car computer delivers this information to the ECU or engine control unit where it will be analyzed. After which, the ECU will then modify the mixture accordingly if the exhaust is found to have more air than oxygen or vice versa. If it contains too much oxygen, the mixture is too lean and that would damage the engine. And if it is too rich or has more fuel than air, then there is a big possibility that the environment will inhale emissions containing lots of unburned fuel. Thus, the Rolls Royce oxygen sensor helps indirectly in preventing these two harmful effects from occurring.
When the mixture is too lean, the ECU makes the fuel injection system provide more fuel, and when it is too rich, it lessens the injection of fuel. Proper ratio of air and fuel for combustion can only lead to good results such as better fuel economy, longer-lasting engine, a boost in performance, and lower exhaust emissions. From these effects, one can see that the Rolls Royce O2 sensor performs an essential part for better fuel drive and vehicle performance.
